Development idea

Liberal adult education centres have carried out the task of lifelong learning with success for decades in Estonia and Finland. However, at this moment there is a need for new kinds of methods, networks and attitudes in adult education. The information society, learning in networks and flexible online communication all provide new possibilities for adult education.

Aim of the project

LEMON renewed liberal adult education centres to better meet the expectations of individuals and organisations in their region. With the help of the project, the liberal adult education centres were able to find new students and interest groups, build new local and cross-border partnerships, apply new learning methods, and both design and pilot new courses.

Main project activities

The project carried out training for the staff of liberal adult education centres and stimulating the creation of new networks. Furthermore, the project produced a book about the possibilities of social media (wiki, blogs, etc.) in adult education in addition to a report about future perspectives of adult education in Estonia and Finland. A substantial number of students participated in new courses or operation models during the project.
