Development idea

The Baltic Archipelago and Islands lack substantial investment to improve accessibility to and between more remote areas. Arkösund, Tyrislöt, Fyrudden, Söderhamn, Hanko, Raseborg and Hiiumaa are centres for land and sea transport of people and goods, but their economic activity is small and seasonal.

Aim of the project

The BACES project increased cross-border cooperation between the more remote archipelago areas by developing strategies and creating solutions for better accessibility of the seven cooperating centres.

Main project activities

Furthermore, the project made efforts to improve the economic viability of the Baltic Archipelago and Islands Centres (BACES) economy and products by developing the preconditions to make a living there. The partners have developed and invested in Info Centres located in the BACES area. The BACES project also arranged campaigns and exhibitions. Further work has been done on producing information material and disseminating information outside the region about the archipelago and islands round these centres and the natural environments that could be an asset for sustainable tourism.
