Development idea

As much as 78% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the EU can be attributed to human activity. Finland, Estonia and Latvia made plans on how to save energy and replace fossil fuel sources with renewable energy sources. These countries only have a few of their own energy sources, but an important domestic source is biomass in one form or another. Various research institutes, companies and universities in each country studied and developed recommendations on how these renewable domestic sources of energy could be employed. At the same time boilers, burners and fireplaces are becoming more energy-efficient and ecological to use. However, consumers frequently lack reliable information on the existing heating boilers and stoves for small houses which utilise wood (firewood, wood chips, pellets) or biomass systems.

Aim of the project

The ECOHOUSING project has developed reliable and easily accessible energy guidance for the public.

Main project activities

The partners collected information and compared good practices and new methods in heating technology, equipment and devices applying bio and wood-energy in varying forms. Furthermore, the project has both tested and produced new training material and courses for installers of boilers and other equipment relating to heating systems that utilise biomass. The training material was also directed towards advisers in the energy-efficient use of bioenergy. Furthermore, the partners have developed and tested consumer-directed guidance services and network operations models.
