Development idea

The music schools of Latvia and Finland have varying approaches in teaching music and playing instruments on an artistic as well as a professional level. Due to insufficient information and exchange on musical education systems and musical activities, citizens and music schools are not well informed about the musical traditions and materials of neighbouring countries.

Aim of the project

The Bridge of Music project promoted the national music and culture heritage of the Central Baltic region by introducing innovative music teaching methods, whilst strengthening and diversifying the musical education systems in Latvia and Finland.

Main project activities

The project partners worked closely in order to create common cultural products. Through the introduction of the Sibelius music arrangement programme, the students of Kuldiga Music School, together with Hyvinkää Music Institute, were given the opportunity to write their own compositions for joint concert programmes. During the joint concerts, the people of Latvia and Finland increased their awareness of the musical and cultural heritage of each other’s country.
