Development idea

There are many significant historic parks in Finland and Estonia even on a European scale, but some of them have not been prioritised or are in a state of standstill. Investing in historic parks makes them more attractive for visitors and maintains the range of cultural heritage and biodiversity.

Aim of the project

The DEVEPARK project promotes park tourism and provides new cooperation models and techniques for maintenance and further development of historic parks. The partners learn about the possibilities to use historic parks as new targets for recreation and tourism, and thus create new economic and employment possibilities on local and regional levels.

Main project activities

Experimental studies are made by study tours, and the development of pilot parks and areas in the regions of Southwest Finland, Häme in Finland and the counties of Tartu, Saare and Jõgeva in Estonia. The project carries out certain new small infrastructure investments regarding inventories, competition and construction. To ensure the results are accessible and sustainable, the project makes material and data regarding results and tools available in various forms.
