Development idea
Public sector workplaces have significant environmental impacts, and at the same time the public sector has a pioneering role in reducing environmental loads. As climate change has become a more newsworthy issue, the willingness for environmental responsibility amongst people and organisations has grown.
Aim of the project
"The Eco-Support Activity project was filling the gap between practical everyday actions and the environmental policies of the project partner organisations. Environmental responsibility was increased by implementing “eco-support activity” in the participating municipalities. The activity was integrated into environmental management and focused on environmentally friendly practical actions in waste management and recycling, energy and water, green procurement and mobility and decreasing paper consumption."
Main project activities
All municipalities nominated and trained ecosupporters in working units, who acted as “change agents”. They seeked to integrate environmental issues into all their activities by promoting responsible everyday practices. As a result, employees became aware of the environmental impacts of their work and developed a new more responsible working culture.

Instruments for eco-support activities
A number of instruments (handbooks, good practices, etc.) help interested parties to carry out eco-support activities i.e actions taken at workplaces in order to promote protection of the environment.
Eco-support is an operating model developed for workplaces. Eco-supporters are appointed and trained for working communities to promote work for a better environment. New ecological practices in everyday operations save both the environment and money.
